The 20-MP still images are perhaps an even more noticeable step up from previous Hero sensors. RAW images are considerably sharper, and there's less smearing of fine details. The physical limitations of small lenses aren't gone—purple fringing is quite common but easy to remove with software.
Look for complete GoPro camera kits that include multiple mounts for attaching the camera in versatile ways. These include backpack clips, car mounts and even wrist straps.

At the highest resolution video modes you’ll fit a maximum of just under 3 hours of footage on the 64GB card. So if you want to fit more than that on your cards you’ll be better off reducing the resolution, which makes for smaller files that require less space. Here are some guide as to how much you can fit on a card at each resolution. A good general shooting mode is something like 1080p at 30fps. That will give you full resolution on a standard HD TV (ie. not 4K) and works well for the web.
With the huge field of view in a GoPro, the ability to crop and zoom in on your subject after the fact is a tremendous advantage.
You’ll notice from the audio level meter that audio from the camera is also being captured. And if you record a file this is in sync with the video.

– Swapping batteries and memory cards is simple enough, but does mean opening the waterproof housing each time. To reduce fogging, try to do that in the air-conditioned dry air of your cabin rather than in the humid air on deck or land.
The Hero4 Black’s timelapse mode really is a beautiful thing, producing high resolution 2.7K or 4K timelapse videos as easily as normal clips, so there’s no need to manually compile hundreds of stills into a movie later.
But first, I would like to mention that GoPro didn’t make their camera to be used as a webcam. And they don’t even recommend it.
The Max lens mod adds a wider field view and potentially opens up some new filming possibilities. It's not a full 360-degree lens like Insta360's One R, which can be either an action camera or a 360-degree camera depending on which lens you use, but it's nice to see GoPro moving in a similar direction.
